Time to Sober Calculator – Estimate BAC & Alcohol Elimination
How Long Does It Take to Sober Up?
Here’s the thing: your body can only process so much alcohol at a time. It’s about one standard drink per hour. That means if someone’s had more than a drink or two, it’s going to take a while before they’re completely sober again. There’s no quick fix. Not coffee, not cold showers, not even chugging water.
Also important:
It’s not just how much someone drinks. It’s how fast they drink it.
If a guest has 4 drinks in one hour, they’ll be a lot more impaired than if they spread those same 4 drinks over 4 hours. That’s because the body is already breaking down alcohol while they’re drinking so the longer they take, the more time their body has to process it.
Use this calculator to:
- Estimate someone’s BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) based on what they drank, their weight, and how long they were drinking.
- See how long it might take to reach 0.00% BAC.
It’s not exact as everyone’s body is a little different, but it’s a great tool to help you make smart, responsible calls when serving.
